Comparison of Flat Roofs and Sloped Roofs
The roof of a house is one part of the building that functions as a cover or protector of the building from the hot sun and rain. The roof of the house is one of the most important parts of the construction of a house because it is on top to cover the entire building.
The construction or structure of the roof usually consists of three main parts, namely the roof covering structure, purlins, and also the truss frame. This roof covering will later be supported by the roof frame structure, which usually consists of trusses, purlins, and rafters and battens. The roof load will later be transferred to the foundation of the house through columns and beams.
The roof structure is usually made by following or adjusting to the overall plan and shape of the building from the roof design of the house. If your house consists of 2 floors, then the roof structure is made by following the plan or layout of the house on the 2nd floor. And here are some comparisons of roofs for flat roofs and sloping roofs that you need to know.
Sloping roof shape or gable roof
A roof with this shape is the form of a residential roof that is considered the safest, because it is very easy to maintain in terms of detecting leaks. A sloping roof or gable roof consists of two sloping planes at the top end, then they will meet in a straight line which we generally call the ridge, the angle of the roof is between 30 and 45 degrees Celsius.
Flat roof shape
For example, a flat plane that extends horizontally is generally used for terrace roofs, or even used to create a beautiful garden on top of the house. A roof with this shape is the most difficult to maintain, especially in terms of detecting leaks. And the most important thing to consider here in terms of planning the roof is to take into account the air circulation space underneath so that later the room temperature is not too hot.
In addition to the two models of flat and sloping roofs above, there are also several other forms of roofs that you can use as a comparison for your residential roof, such as the following:
- Limasan or shield roof shape. This roof shape is a refinement of the saddle roof shape which consists of two sloping roof planes with a trapezoidal shape. The two roof planes are triangular with a general slope.
- Combination saddle plus shield roof shape. For this type of roof shape, it is a combination or combination of a saddle roof and also a shield or pyramid. Some also call it a broken tent roof or joglo roof.
- Standard roof shape. The standard roof or what is usually called a stick-on roof is because the upper edge rests or is attached to the building wall or cantilever. Buildings with roofs like this are usually roofs on additional buildings.
Thus the review of the comparison of flat roofs and sloping roofs that we can inform you about. Hopefully it can be useful and also inspire you all.
