Planning to Build a House? Check Out These Modern
Over the past five years, simple modern roof designs have become very popular. Some offer many advantages, including competitive pricing. Furthermore, modern roof designs are also popular because they feature unique architectural styles that can enhance a home's concept. If you're building a house or replacing an old roof design, consider these simple roof design options.
1. Modern flat roof
Modern architectural design is characterized by flat roofs with long, horizontal planes that appear to form broad lines. Modern roof designs often exemplify the clean-line principle of form and function. Flat roofs can provide adequate protection and control sunlight entering the home. Modern flat roof designs can even be designed with plants or used as a rooftop for relaxing with the family. However, flat roof designs also have advantages and disadvantages. The simple slope prevents each corner from being visible to others. Furthermore, modern flat roofs are made of thicker materials than other roof styles.
2. Gable Roof
Like flat roofs, gable roofs have long been a part of the history of modern roof architecture. Gable roofs have a very simple, straightforward, and functional design that is characteristic of modern roof design. Gable roofs provide the opportunity for additional floor space within the roof volume, such as an attic. This serves to increase usable floor area and allow natural light into the space. Furthermore, the gable roof shape looks modern, resembling a vaulted ceiling. A vaulted ceiling adds volume to a space. That's why many modern house designs with gable roofs utilize vaulted ceilings. The gable roof frame typically consists of a ridge beam and sloping rafters or prefabricated wood framing. Gable roofs also allow for easy rainwater drainage due to their dome-like shape. However, you'll need to build gutters to drain rainwater from the roof.
3. Shed Roof
Besides flat roofs, shed roofs are another example of a clean, simple, and functional roof structure. This simple roofline is indeed very modern. These roofs allow ample sunlight in and replace the sometimes impractical attic space with more interior space. One advantage of a shed roof is its ability to make the ceilings appear higher. This allows for more natural light and expansive views. Another advantage of a shed roof is that its slope is designed to block direct sunlight during the summer heat while allowing it to enter the house during the rainy season. Because the slope is steeper than a flat roof, shed roof framing can be made of a variety of materials, depending on the span. Similar to flat roofs, a variety of ceiling aesthetics can also be achieved. Depending on your design preferences, shed roof framing can be hidden above the ceiling or left exposed below. However, shed roofs have the disadvantage of being prone to water leaking to one side due to their slope. Therefore, you'll need to install gutters to channel rainwater that falls from the roof.
