The roof of the house is one of the important and even very important components of the house. If this component of the house is damaged, it will certainly be disturbing for the occupants of the house. Because if it is the rainy season, your house will leak. What are the problems with the roof of the house? And what is the solution? Well, here are some problems with the roof of the house and their solutions:
1. Roof Too Sloping
The roof slope factor must be considered, so that the water that falls can flow immediately. A sloping roof causes water to fall slowly and will gradually collect in the concrete and seep.
How to fix it, the roof design must follow the ideal slope requirements, which are 30-40 degrees. This slope size is the ideal limit for the roof frame to be able to hold the roof covering properly so that water can be poured onto the ground immediately. Conversely, a steep roof can cause the tiles to sag.
2. Leaking Roof
The roof needs to be checked and maintained at least once a year. Pay attention to each ridge, roof shape meeting, and gutter. Changes in weather, especially extreme weather, can make tiles break easily and the cement on the ridge crack. For this, coat the joints of the roof tiles, ridges, and gutters with waterproofing.
3. Porous Roof Frame
The causes of porous roof frames vary, for example, water seepage dripping from between the tiles and gutters. Replacing the entire roof frame must be done if the damage is severe, for example, the trusses or most of the rafters are porous. However, if the damage is only a small part of the rafters and battens, you can only repair the damaged parts.
4. Sagging Roof Tiles
Generally, clay roof tiles are designed for an angle of 27.5-40 degrees. If the installation angle is not right, it will become a way for water to enter. Meanwhile, the gaps in the roof tiles are made to anticipate the expansion of the roof tiles, as well as air ventilation.
It is better to make the roof angle sloping with an angle wider than 40 degrees. Each piece of roof tile should also be nailed to the batten directly below it so that it does not sag easily.
5. Cracked Ridge
Cracked ridges occur due to changes in the weather. To overcome this, minimize roof joints such as the use of ridges and ridges. The size of the ridge or ridge should not be too high because it will create gaps that invite water. Another way is to apply a special sheet that is waterproof, soft, and flexible on the surface of the ridge.
6. Hairline Cracks on Concrete Roofs
Continuous changes in heat and cold will cause the concrete roof to crack finely. However, even the smallest crack will definitely allow water to enter. This problem can be overcome by paying attention to the composition of the concrete mixture and the casting process, because these two things greatly determine the quality of the concrete. If cracks have occurred, use waterproofing on the entire roof surface.
7. Hot Temperature in the Attic
Hot temperatures in the attic can be reduced with cross ventilation. You can modify the air vents and create cavities under the tiles.
