Does your metal roof have a hole in your house? He
Have you ever thought that the metal roof of your house has a hole in it and you have to dismantle it? It turns out that this problem does not always have to be resolved. And it doesn't always cost a lot to fix. There are two ways to patch it. How to? Below we will explain it for you.
During the rainy season it turns out that your metal roof has holes. Can a metal roof be patched?
The following is how to patch a metal roof:
1. Patch using pieces of metal roof sheet
To patch the damaged part, you will need pieces of metal roofing sheet of the same type. Therefore, it is best to keep excess sheets at home at the start of installation. Cut the metal roof sheet using metal scissors. Then, fold the edges carefully. Before attaching, clean the damaged part of the roof using a wire comb. Attach the metal roof pieces. Add weights (e.g. bricks) on top to keep the pieces from flying. After that, attach the roof with the sheet pieces using solder.
2. Patch using pieces of wire sheet
If you don't have metal roof sheets of the same type, you can also use wire mesh sheets to patch. Cut the wire sheet, then place it over the damaged spot. Prepare waterproofing mortar. Then, coat the surface of the wire with waterproofing until it blends with the roof. Wait until it dries.
3. The easiest way is to use used corks to protect electronic devices (Styrofoam) such as used washing machines, televisions, etc.) which are often thrown away in the trash. The steps you must follow are as follows:
With a little capital, buy approximately ½ liter of petrol (premium) from a retailer or if possible, just take it from your motorbike tap. Then cut the cork (styrofoam) into small pieces, around 10-20 cm. Put petrol in a used can or even a used mineral water glass.
Then put the pieces of cork into the gasoline, stir until completely dissolved. Please climb onto the metal roof, take a dry cloth and clean the location of the leak from dirt.
Apply the mixture with a brush, wooden stick or by hand until it evenly covers the area that is thought to be leaking. Wait a few moments until it dries by itself.
Using cork (Styrofoam) usually only lasts approximately 6 months, at least until the rainy season has passed.
4. Another practical way is to buy sealant (silicon) or aquarium glue which is widely sold in building stores. Look for the source of the leak, once found, repair it, namely:
If a leak occurs in the roof, make repairs by replacing, re-trimming, or checking the nails or SDS screws (Self Drilling Screw) of the roof. Do your own assessment to choose the repair alternative above. Use sealant (Silicone Watershield) on roof SDS nails or screws if necessary.
If a leak occurs in the gutter on the railing, we first check whether the gutter leak is large or small in diameter. If the diameter is small, we can patch it using additive materials (patches) which are widely sold in building materials stores. If the leak is large in diameter, please replace your gutter with a new one.
If the leak occurs in the metal roof itself, check the source of the leak again. If a leak occurs at the joint between metal roof tile sheets, then tidy up the arrangement of the metal tile sheets again and again do the SDS nails/screws firmly and neatly. If the leak occurs only in the SDS nail or screw, it can be overcome by applying sealant (silicone) to the SDS nail or screw so that water cannot seep in.
If a leak occurs in the wall flashing, pay close attention to whether the leak occurs in the wall flashing sheet or in the plaster covering the wall flashing. If this happens to the wall flashing sheet, then make repairs by tidying up or replacing the wall flashing sheet. If this happens to the stucco, it can be repaired by applying water proofing material to the stucco, so it doesn't leak anymore.
After repairs are made we have to check again the next day. Carry out monitoring on rainy days, so that it can be proven whether repairs have been successful or not. If there is still a leak, carry out the inspection again and carry out the repair steps above more thoroughly and neatly. Good luck!
