From the naked eye, the characteristic of a house is often seen from the top, namely the roof. The existence of a roof as a covering for the house is a special value for the building. Apart from beautifying the shape of the building, the presence of a roof also has an important function as protecting the house from wind, heat and rain.
Nowadays, there are various types of roofs offered by property companies. Starting from gable roof models, shields, to a combination of both, making you even more confused about which one to choose. Even though roofs have various variations, you still have to be careful in choosing them. If you choose the wrong roof, your home will no longer be safe and comfortable. Especially when the rainy season comes, if the roof is not functioning properly there will be leaks.
In general, leaks are caused by four things:
First, your lack of attention to the construction design of the roof slope. The roof of the house should have a slope angle of at least 30 degrees so that water can flow smoothly. Don't let the slope level exceed the minimum roof slope standard. Be careful, if the slope is more than 30 degrees, the roof tiles will easily sag.
Second, installation errors and carelessness. If the roof tiles are not neatly installed, the roof will have a cavity that invites water to come in during the rainy season. Installing wuwungan roof tiles or roof tiles with as little cement as possible will also trigger water seepage downwards.
Third, the selection of materials used. Using sheet roofing such as asbestos, fiber cement, ardex, stainless steel zinc, or bitumen (asphalt) is better than materials such as clay tiles, concrete tiles, ceramics, or wood shingles. This is because the cavities between the planes of asbestos material provide a slope tolerance of less than 30 degrees, so that water will still be able to flow smoothly.
Fourth, natural condition factors. Continuous changes in heat and cold will cause the material covering the house to wear out or change. Another thing worth taking into account is the construction. Strong construction will increase residents' confidence in their safety factors. We know several types of roofs, both modern and conventional.
Roof construction or structure generally consists of three main parts, namely: roof covering structure, curtains and truss frame. The roof covering will be supported by a roof frame structure, which consists of trusses, purlins, ribs and battens. Roof loads will be transmitted to the foundation through columns and/or beams. Roof structures are generally made by following or adapting to the overall plan or shape of the building (house roof design). If the house consists of two floors, the roof structure is made to follow the plan/layout of the house on the second floor.
There are several forms of roof designs that can be used as references when you are building a house, including; gable roof shape, this roof is the form of house roof that is considered the safest because it is easy to maintain in terms of detecting if a leak occurs. A gable roof consists of two sloping planes whose upper ends meet in a straight line which we usually call a ridge. Tilt angle between 30 to 45 degrees.
Shield roof shape (limasan), this roof shape is a refinement of the gable roof shape, which consists of two sloping roof areas in the shape of a trapezium. The two roof areas are triangular with usually the same slope.

Another form is the flat roof form. This model on a flat horizontal elongated plane is usually used for terrace roofs. Or even used to create a garden above the house.
