Choice of Building Materials for House Roofs
As a building protector from the heat of the sun, cold air, dust, rainfall and wind, the roof is an important part of building construction. Apart from being protective, the roof can also influence the aesthetics of the building, so the choice of roof material can affect the overall impression of the building. Currently, there are various building materials that can be used for roof construction. Each material has advantages and disadvantages, therefore consider it carefully before you decide to buy building roofing material. Here are some roofing materials that you can consider to protect your home.
Clay Roof
Clay is the most well-known and frequently used roofing material for houses. Clay roof tiles are easy to get because they are widely produced in Indonesia. Clay roofs are durable and cannot rot, burn, or be damaged by insects. This type of roof is available in various models and shapes. The installation process is also quite easy. Even though this type of roof is resistant to both hot and cold weather and rain, clay tiles break and split easily. The weight of clay tiles is also quite heavy, so installing this type of roof requires strong support.
Roof Shingles
Shingle roofs are generally made from wood. The type of wood used to make shingle roofs is ironwood. Apart from house roofs, shingle roofs are also often used to cover pavilions or temporary buildings. The shingle material is also unique, because each sheet has a different color, thickness and size, so this material produces a natural impression. The natural impression produced by a shingle roof can make a building seem simple but still look luxurious. Apart from all its advantages, shingles also have several disadvantages. This material requires extra care to last a long time, because it is susceptible to weathering and damage from insects. This type of roof is also more difficult to install than clay tiles, so the quality of the shingle roof is determined by the skill of the craftsman who installs it. Apart from that, shingle material is quite susceptible to fire hazards if it is not coated with a heat-resistant layer.
Metal Roof
Metal roofs consist of an arrangement of tiles made of rust-resistant metal. The shape of a metal roof is similar to zinc, namely in the form of a sheet. Metal roofs reflect heat, so they can keep the house cool. The material from which it is made can also be recycled, so it is considered environmentally friendly. Metal roofs are installed by attaching them to the roof frame using nuts and bolts. This type of roof is shatterproof, anti-moss, anti-rust, quite fireproof and does not require special maintenance. Apart from being durable, metal roofs are also light in weight, so they don't require a large number of frames. However, metal roofs are quite expensive and not easy to install, so they require skilled craftsmen to install them.
Each type of roofing material has its own advantages and disadvantages. Carefully consider the material you will use for the roof of your building, adjust the material to the type and needs of the building. Materials that suit building needs can produce good and long-lasting roof construction.
