Comparison of Flat Roofs and Sloping Roofs
The roof of a residential house is one part of the building which has the function of covering or protecting the building from the hot sun and rain. The roof of the house is one of the most important parts of residential building construction because it is on top to cover all parts of the building.
The roof construction or structure usually consists of three main parts, namely the roof covering structure, curtains, and also the truss frame. This roof covering will be supported by a roof frame structure, which usually consists of trusses, curtains, and ribs and battens. The roof load will then be transmitted to the house foundation through columns and beams.
The roof structure is usually made by following or adapting to the overall plan and shape of the building from the house roof design. If your house consists of 2 floors, then the roof structure is made by following the floor plan or layout of the house on the 2nd floor. And here are some comparisons of house roofs for flat roofs and also sloping roofs that you need to know.
The shape of the roof is sloping or gable
This form of roof is the form of residential roof that is considered the safest, because it is very easy to maintain in terms of detecting leaks. This sloping roof or gable roof consists of two sloping planes at the top end, which then meet in a straight line which we will generally call a ridge. The angle of inclination of this roof is between 30 and 45 degrees Celsius.
Flat roof shape
For example, a flat area that extends horizontally is generally used for a terrace roof, or even used to create a beautiful garden above the house. Roofs with this shape are the most difficult to maintain, especially in terms of detecting leaks. And the most important thing to pay attention to here when planning the roof is to take into account the air circulation space at the bottom so that the room temperature is not too hot.
Apart from the two models of flat and sloping house roofs above, there are also several other forms of house roofs that you can use as a comparison for the roof of your house, such as the following:
- Limasan or shield roof shape. This roof shape is a complement to the gable roof shape which consists of two sloping roof planes with a trapezoidal shape. The two areas of the roof are triangular in shape with a general slope.
- The roof shape is a combination of gable plus shield. This roof shape is a combination or combination of a roof with a saddle type and also a shield or pyramid. There are also those who call it a broken tent roof or a joglo roof.
- Standard roof shape. A standard roof or what is usually called a stick-on roof is because the top edge rests or is attached to the building wall or cantilevered. Buildings with roofs like this are usually roofs on additional buildings.
That's a review of the comparison of flat roofs and sloping roofs that we can provide. Hopefully it can be useful and also inspire you all.
