Leak-prone spots in your home!

The end of the year is often filled with the rainy season. After going through a long dry season, it has finally started to rain in the past few weeks. But before the long rainy season, have you checked your roof?
Roof leaks are indicated by water entering the house but if it hasn't rained yet, how can you know if the roof is leaking or not? Here are tips for checking your house for leaks before the
rainy season arrives along with preventive measures:
1. Check the Roof Tiles
Roof tiles that are sagging (disposition), broken or cracked can cause water to enter when it rains. This problem often arises due to hot weather conditions, exposure to wind or vibrations of the building structure. Prevention is by correcting the position of the tiles and replacing damaged or cracked tiles with new tiles.
2. Check the Concrete Roof
If you have a concrete roof, it's a good idea to check it before the rain comes. Concrete roofs can leak and seep if there are cracks, or the waterproofing layer is worn out (cracked/broken). This usually occurs due to changes in weather, or exposure to continuous heat. Prevention is by re-coating the concrete roof with a new layer of waterproofing.
3. Check the Walls and Carpets for Cracks
Check the Walls and Carpets Cracks in walls or carpets can also cause leaks. Cracks often occur due to weather and shaking or vibrations in the building structure. Just like roofs, prevention can be done by re-coating the cracked parts with a layer of waterproofing.
4. Check the Gutter
Clogged channels in the gutter can also cause leaks. Clogged gutters will cause water to accumulate on the roof. Gutters are usually clogged with dust/dirt, trash, or dry leaves during the dry season. Prevention is by cleaning your gutter channels until they are no longer clogged.
So, don't wait until they leak. Check your roof now.
