Is your roof leaking? Get to know the cause
Leaks on the roof is one of the most disturbing residential diseases. Leaks can cause damage to the ceiling or ceiling of the house, change the color of the wall paint and even cause a short circuit in the electronic devices in your home.
It's important to do what you can to avoid a leaky roof on your home so you don't have to go through the expensive and inconvenient repairs it can cause when it rains. Here are some tips you should keep in mind to avoid leaks on your roof:
1. Keep Moss
If moss grows on your roof, it can cause damage to the structure and make leaks more likely. Moss will absorb and trap water, which will then seep and penetrate the roof of your house. Moss roots can also push against your roofing material and slowly cause damage as it spreads. When you do frequent roof checks, look for any moss and if it starts to grow, make sure you remove it. Moss tends to grow more in humid climates.
2. Sloping, Flat or Jurai Roof
Sloping roofs are very important because they allow water to run off the surface. If you have a flat roof, it is important to ensure that there is a proper rainwater disposal method in place to prevent water from settling on the roof for extended periods of time. A flat roof is never completely level, as it has to have a slight slope for water to run off onto the ground.
The jurai roof has a meeting angle between the roof planes, there is an outer jurai for the meeting of the roof on the outside and a jurai in the meeting of the roof that occurs at the inner corner. Leakage problems generally occur in the deep jurai because this angle is the path for rainwater to flow. Many people prefer flat roofs because they are cheaper to install but must be completely watertight as they are more prone to leaks.
3. Provide Periodic Roof Checks
If you inspect the roof regularly, this will help prevent leaks. You'll be able to spot the damage early so you can fix it before it gets bigger when it rains. Checking your roof should be done on a rainy day, as this will help you to see the waterway. Make sure you check all common problem areas, such as gutters, downpipes, drain caps and roof valleys.
4. Get Rid of Trees Around Your Roof
If you have trees around your roof and they protrude and touch your roof, they can cause a lot of damage and make leaks more likely. Tree branches touching the roof will scratch the roofing material when blown by the wind. Also, if a twig falls from a tree it can damage chips and other roofing materials. Another problem is that leaves that fall on the roof will retain moisture and can cause rot, as well as blocking drainage from gutters. These are just some of the important tips that you should keep in mind when it comes to preventing leaks on your roof. If you can prevent leaks from happening in the first place, you will avoid expensive repairs and damage to things in your home.
Rain gutters and drains
One of the roof elements that often causes leaks are gutters, drains or rainwater pipes. Rain gutters are generally made of lightweight and elastic materials such as PVC pipes, carpets or plastic sheeting, as well as metals such as zinc sheets. Leaks can occur due to shifting of the gutter due to weak bonds or damage to the gutter itself due to the age of the material or weather exposure. What also needs to be watched out for is the collection of garbage such as dry leaves and twigs in gutters or rainwater drain holes, the accumulation of garbage causes blockages in gutters or pipes which in turn can cause leaks.
There are so many elements that have the potential to cause leaks on the roof of your house, however, with the selection of the right materials or materials, regular supervision and cleaning, and then periodically re-coating the waterproofing layer, the potential for leaks can be reduced to a minimum. We hope this brief explanation can give you an idea of ??the causes and prevention of leaks on the roof, so that you can now realize your dream home with a sense of security. Congratulations on building your dream house.
