Similar but not the same
For some ordinary people, seeing the joglo house and the limasan house at a glance is very similar. But even so, if you look closely, you can still tell the difference easily. The Joglo building is a typical Javanese building that has existed since time immemorial. In its time, the Joglo house style was used by almost all levels of Javanese society. At this time, the Joglo house style is also starting to exist again, because it creates a classic and antique impression. In addition, the Joglo house is also quite economical in terms of its value.

Currently, the Joglo building is widely used for the restaurant business and used as a tourism business. Because it has a traditional impression that many people get the impression like living in the royal era. So how do you tell the difference between a Joglo-style building and a pyramid building?

Joglo Rumah house
This traditional house from Java is generally made of teak wood. The hallmark of this house is in the shape of the roof which resembles the shape of a mountain called the tajug roof. According to Javanese society in the past, mountains were symbols of all sacred forms. From this formation, the term Joglo emerged, which comes from the words tajug and loro which means two tajug joined together.

Apart from the shape of the roof, the Joglo house also has a distinctive feature, namely the existence of four pillars that support the building called Soko Guru. This pole is also the main pillar of the Joglo building. According to his philosophy, these four pillars represent the power that comes from the four cardinal directions, and humans are in the middle of those directions.

In the Joglo house, there are several parts in the arrangement. The very front is the pendopo, which is a meeting room without any partitions on the walls. Then the middle part is called pringgitan which is the connecting space between the pendapa and the dalem. Then the very back is called the dalem room or the back room, which is used as a family room and relaxing room.

Limasan house is also commonly known as joglo limasan house or joglo joke. At first glance, the shape of a joglo house is similar to a pyramid. The difference is in the roof of the limasan house which looks similar to the roof of a traditional South Sumatran house. The frame structure of the pyramid house is in the form of logs which are then arranged in a cube system with a pyramid roof. The pyramid-style building is flexible, where the joints between the wood are not rigid to each other. So that buildings with this style can be used in earthquake-prone areas.

That was the most striking difference between the Joglo house style and the Limasan house style. So for those of you who find it difficult to distinguish between the two, you can see from the explanation above. Hope it is useful.
